Wall of Grief is an online archive dedicated to memorializing the lives lost to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. This project serves as a comprehensive repository, meticulously documenting official death data for COVID-19 pandemic in India. Beyond statistics, the website houses an extensive archive of research, reports and news articles related deaths caused by the pandemic. The mission at Wall of Grief is to honor and commemorate every life lost to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. WoG is dedicated to preserving the legacy of those affected by this unprecedented crisis. It stands as a testament to our resilience and a stark reminder of our losses.
My task was to craft a brand identity and website that conveyed the depth of the losses, and ensured that Wall of Grief becomes a lasting tribute to those who have passed, fostering awareness and commemoration.
This project strives to make the official death data transparent and comprehensive while curating a rich archive of reports and news articles related to the pandemic. Our goal is to overcome the difficulties of collecting and presenting this sensitive information while fostering a sense of community and empathy. We aim to make Wall of Grief a beacon of remembrance, learning, and unity in the face of adversity.
The broad objective of this project is to serve as a reminder to the citizens about the scale of the tragedy and their personal losses in the years to come and to enable and trigger more and better reportage and research on Covid deaths in India.
The interactive website served a dual purpose. The first was to create a digital memorial that preserve the memories of those lost to COVID. Inspired by war memorials and obelisks, we created a wall of names and user-submitted obituaries to forever remember the dead.
The second was to create a robust database of official death registers from each district of the country, as well a repository of news, documents and reports to properly quantify the scale of deaths.
